We prayed for Marco before he was conceived, we prayed for him while he was forming in my womb and we have given thanks for his life every day since he was born.
We weren't quite sure how the adjustment would go from 2 to 3 kids, but Marco has made it so enjoyable. Diego and Alexia's acceptance of Marco and their unconditional love for him have also contributed to the ease with which we have transitioned into being a family of 5.
I thought I would write down some things about Marco to help you get to know him a little better:
- He says mama, papa and mas (more)
- He uses sign language to say "more" and "all done"
- He loves to play peek a boo, but his hands fall on his ears or cheeks instead of his eyes - it's adorable!
- He waves goodbye on command or if he feels like it
- He is very quick to smile and giggle
- He loves to eat. I mean, really. He is unbelievable. He eats and eats and eats. His favorites are all fruits (especially oranges and blueberries), salmon, cheese, eggs, chicken, beans and yogurt. He eats whatever we are having and even has peanut butter & jelly sandwiches with the kids if we're out on a picnic (yeah, we started peanut butter a little early this time around).
- He is a crawling champion. He moves fast and with determination. He has no desire to walk and does not even pull himself up to standing. In fact, he has never done it.
- He loves to kneel up against the windows and watch the activity in the backyard, especially the squirrels and birds
- He can play catch with a ball. Diego and him sit across from each other and he throws the ball back and forth and they have a blast
- He bites when he gets frustrated. He will even bite his own hand if he is frustrated that he can't have something he wants. He used to bite the kids when they would bother him, but I think the countless rounds of consequences are paying off and he is learning to control himself
- He understands and responds to the command "no" really well
- He still nurses, about 4-6 times a day.
- He goes to bed around 7:30 or 8:00 and sleeps until 6:30 to 7:00. He takes a nap around 10 and another nap around 2.
- Sometimes we are not home for his morning nap or afternoon nap or both, and he totally goes with the flow.
- He is enamored by his brother and sister. He adores them like no other. It is awesome. I can leave the 3 of them playing alone and the kids have a blast playing with him and take such good care of him.
- He has discovered his pointer finger and loves to point at things.
- When we say "How big is Marco?" He puts his hands up in the air and says "aaaahhhhh"
- During our family devotional time we sing a song. Whenever we start singing, he stops whatever he's doing and dances and claps his hands. It melts my heart!
- He boycotts my laundry efforts. Whenever he sees the laundry basket, he heads full-speed towards and it and takes out every article of clothing. Sometimes he puts them all back in, but most often not.
- He loves bath time. Lately I've been bathing him with Diego and Alexia and they all have a blast together. I can pour a whole bowl full of water on his head and he does not mind it going in his eyes or up his nose.
-He loves to open and close doors, drawers and cupboards
- He loves to drink out of straws
- He has a "whisper giggle" that is priceless. He can get into a full belly cackle, but often times he has a soft giggle that is so sweet and tender.
Ricardo took the day off of work tomorrow so we will have our family fun day (a tradition for 1st birthdays). We will serve all of his favorite foods with special snacks and treats, go to a park, play in the pool in the backyard, open presents and rejoice for the life of this precious baby boy. We love you Marco!!
